Colma Donates $15,000 to San Mateo County Strong

The City Council of the Town of Colma has approved a donation of $15,000 to the San Mateo County Strong Fund, the county’s relief effort to support residents and businesses in San Mateo County that have been impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. The unanimous decision was made at the Regular City Council Meeting on April 8, 2020.

“We were impressed with the County’s swift action to establish a relief fund to get support to those who need it,” said Mayor John Goodwin. “This crisis began impacting people immediately, with businesses shutting down and people losing their jobs overnight. It’s crucial that local government leaders act quickly to protect our community, and that’s just what San Mateo County did. Colma wanted to be a part of this extraordinary effort to support our community through these unprecedented challenges.”

“The fund presented Colma with a great opportunity to give back directly to our community,” City Manager Brian Dossey said. All donations to San Mateo County Strong stay within San Mateo County; the funding will assist individuals and families throughout San Mateo County requiring assistance with basic needs due to COVID-19, non-profit organizations that provide services and support to the most vulnerable San Mateo County residents, and San Mateo County small businesses affected by COVID-19.

Mayor Goodwin continued, “Colma is just one small town, but we recognize that we are all in this together, and so we are grateful to be able to do what we can to help keep San Mateo County strong.”
