Assault with a Deadly Weapon on an Officer and Stolen Vehicle

Colma, CA – On 4/11/2020 at approximately 8:18am, Colma Police Officers were on routine patrol when they located a 2000 Toyota Camry parked in the unit block of Colma Boulevard. The vehicle was reported stolen out of San Francisco the day prior. Officers observed a solo occupant in the parked vehicle and attempted to conduct a felony stop. The driver of the vehicle began yelling at the officers and refused to exit. The suspect then put the vehicle in reverse and accelerated at a high rate of speed, toward the direction of one of the officers and patrol vehicle. The officer dove out of the way in time to prevent from being struck, avoiding injury. The suspect collided into the patrol vehicle, put the vehicle back into drive, and accelerated at a high rate of speed. The suspect drove over several concrete parking blocks and fled the scene.

Officers initiated a vehicle pursuit northbound on Junipero Serra Boulevard from Colma Boulevard, terminating the pursuit shortly thereafter due to the reckless nature of the suspect’s driving and danger to the public. The suspect was last seen traveling on Highway 1 towards Pacifica. A Countywide alert was broadcast, and the California Highway Patrol were notified.

Officers later located video surveillance of the suspect making a purchase inside a nearby retail store and requested a copy of the transaction details.

On 4/13/2020, the transaction details were provided to investigating officers, who confirmed the identity of the suspect as being Justin Silvernale, the 35-year old Antioch resident involved in the South San Francisco Officer Involved Shooting incident the day prior.
