Crimes Investigated

The Colma Police Department (CPD) observed a slight decline in overall police activity during the month of June 2025, potentially signaling a broader downward trend in criminal activity within the community. Throughout the month, CPD officers responded to a total of 357 calls for service and generated 89 official police reports. These efforts resulted in 59 arrests comprising of 47 misdemeanors and 12 felonies. Additionally, officers issued 126 citations addressing various offenses, including criminal violations, traffic infractions, and parking violations. A total of 169 traffic enforcement stops were also conducted as part of the department’s ongoing commitment to public safety. The department has continued its proactive approach to public safety throughout July. Between July 1 and July 20, CPD officers filed 88 reports, executed 42 arrests, issued 70 citations, and conducted 120 traffic stops.

On June 21, 2025, at approximately 7:32 p.m., CPD Officers assigned to the San Mateo County Gang Task Force (GTF) conducted a proactive traffic enforcement stop at the Serramonte Mall in Daly City. The stop was initiated due to multiple vehicle code violations involving an Infiniti. During the stop, officers made contact with Victor Martinez Zarate, a 28-year-old San Francisco resident. A consent search was conducted, during which officers located a satchel in Zarate’s possession containing a non-serialized firearm and a magazine loaded with 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Thanks to the officers’ vigilance, professionalism, and thorough investigative efforts, Zarate was safely taken into custody without incident. He was booked into county jail on multiple felony charges, including possession of an altered firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in public, and possession of a concealed weapon in a vehicle. This incident reflects the continued dedication and outstanding work of CPD officers in keeping our communities safe and upholding public safety through collaboration with allied agencies.

On June 23 at approximately 11:03 PM, CPD officers responded to the intersection of El Camino Real and Serramonte Boulevard regarding a three-vehicle collision involving a minor injury. Officers arrived promptly and determined that the driver of a Chevrolet, identified as 32-year-old Juan Montieloyola of South San Francisco, was at fault. While speaking with Montieloyola, officers observed objective signs of alcohol impairment. He subsequently performed a series of field sobriety tests and provided a breath sample that registered above the legal limit.

Montieloyola was arrested and booked into the county jail for driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury. The other parties involved were medically evaluated at the scene and released. No further incidents were reported.

From July 1 through July 8, CPD officers reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to public safety through diligent service and proactive policing across the community. During this two-week period, CPD officers responded to a total of 94 calls for service and initiated 476 proactive incidents. These efforts led to the generation of 27 case reports involving a range of public safety concerns. Notable incidents included arrests and investigations related to vehicle collisions, narcotics, petty theft, petty theft with prior convictions and assault with a deadly weapon.

At approximately 9:22 AM on Friday, July 5, 2025, CPD officers responded to reports of a physical altercation involving multiple individuals at the GameStop retail store located at 4929 Junipero Serra Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds and lacerations to the head. Officers immediately rendered medical aid at the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and is currently listed in stable condition.

Witnesses reported that two male suspects fled the scene in separate vehicles a Honda and a Toyota prior to officers’ arrival. The victim was able to provide photos of both vehicles, including visible license plates. Shortly thereafter, Colma Police located the Honda near the intersection of Junipero Serra Boulevard and Serramonte Boulevard. The Toyota was later located by the Daly City Police Department at Gellert Park in Daly City. Both suspects were subsequently detained without further incident. The suspects were identified as Isaiah Calles, 27, and Miguel OrellanasFlores, 49, both residents of San Francisco.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the altercation began as a verbal dispute when OrellanasFlores allegedly attempted to cut in line to purchase Pokémon trading cards. The confrontation escalated when OrellanasFlores reportedly struck the victim on the back of the head with a glass mason jar. Calles then allegedly used shards from the broken jar to stab the victim multiple times. Both suspects were arrested and booked into San Mateo County Jail on the following charges: Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Assault with a Deadly Weapon Causing Great Bodily Injury, Battery with Serious Bodily Injury, and Conspiracy to Commit a Crime. This incident remains under investigation.

Between July 8 and July 20, 2025, the Colma Police Department responded to a total of 864 incidents, underscoring the department’s continued dedication to public safety and support for the local business community. During this period, officers responded to 175 calls for service and initiated 689 proactive engagements. The wide range of incidents addressed reflects the diverse and complex nature of policing in the community. These incidents included threats against a police officer, assault with a deadly weapon, narcotics-related offenses, vandalism, mutual aid requests, fraud, theft involving individuals with prior convictions, and battery.
