Crimes Investigated

The Colma Police Department reports a slight decrease in overall police activity during April 2025 compared to the previous month, potentially signaling a reduction in criminal incidents across the community. In April, officers responded to a total of 1,840 calls for service and generated 105 official reports. These activities resulted in 57 arrests, 45 for misdemeanors and 12 for felony offenses. Additionally, officers issued 294 citations covering criminal, traffic, and parking violations, alongside 107 traffic enforcement stops. CPD has continued its consistent enforcement efforts into May 2025. Between May 1 and May 23, officers filed 87 reports, made 44 arrests, issued 99 citations, and conducted 100 traffic stops.

On April 26, Liavia Wilson, a 33-year-old resident of South San Francisco, was taken into custody following a theft incident at the Target store. Wilson entered the store and selected merchandise totaling $1,721.80. He then exited the premises without attempting to pay. Loss prevention personnel attempted to detain him outside the store; however, Wilson refused to comply and continued to walk away. CPD officers responded promptly and were able to locate and detain Wilson a short distance from the store. Upon initial contact, he provided officers with a false identity. Through further investigation, officers were able to determine his true identity and confirmed that he had been involved in an earlier theft at the same location earlier that day. Wilson was arrested and transported to county jail, where he was booked on charges of commercial burglary, grand theft, and providing false information to a peace officer.

On May 4th, CPD officers were conducting a routine patrol when they observed a BMW traveling at high speeds and failing to stop at posted stop signs near East Market Street and 3rd Avenue in Daly City. Officers attempted to catch up to the vehicle, which continued to drive recklessly and with disregard for public safety. A traffic stop was eventually initiated, and the driver, identified as Yuniors Diaz Estrada, was contacted. Officers observed that Estrada exhibited objective signs of alcohol impairment. He performed poorly on a field sobriety test and was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence. Estrada was transported to a sobering facility and issued citations for DUI, reckless driving, and driving under the influence while on DUI probation.

On May 8th, CPD officers were conducting a routine business check at the Serra Center when they were approached by Target security personnel regarding a suspected shoplifting incident. Officers responded and stood by with the store’s loss prevention team as they made contact with the suspect, identified as Andrew Hutchinson, a 39-year-old resident of San Francisco. Hutchinson was found to be in possession of approximately $252.61 in concealed merchandise. Target loss prevention personnel effected a citizen’s arrest for theft. Hutchinson was subsequently transported to the county jail, where he was booked on charges of petty theft with prior convictions and shoplifting.

On May 14th, National Police Week was held as a time dedicated to honoring the brave men and women in law enforcement who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. This year, 345 names were solemnly added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C., each representing a life lost in service to their community. Officers from the Colma Police Department had the privilege of representing the Town of Colma in our nation’s capital during this ceremonial week. Their presence served as a tribute to those who gave their lives protecting others and as a reminder of the unwavering commitment and courage exemplified by law enforcement professionals across the country.
