Crimes Investigated

Throughout the month of October, the Colma Police Department (CPD) officers handled 392 calls for service and generated 122 police reports. These efforts led to 68 arrests, including 51 misdemeanors and 17 felonies, as part of the departments continued focus on maintaining public safety and addressing crime within the community. Officers also issued 278 citations, which included criminal, traffic, and mostly parking violations. As part of CPD’s traffic safety efforts, the department conducted 173 traffic stops, helping encourage safe driving and reduce roadway hazards. In the two and half weeks of November, CPD has generated 76 police reports, making 36 arrests, issuing 133 citations, conducting 117 traffic stops and 873 officer initiated incidents.

On October 30, 2025, Ricky John, a 43-year-old San Francisco resident, was observed by a Marshalls Loss Prevention Officer stealing store merchandise. CPD officers quickly arrived on scene and located John in the Metro Mall parking lot as he attempted to flee on foot with the stolen items. Upon contacting him, CPD officers immediately recognized John from a theft he had committed earlier in the day. Officers recovered approximately $94 worth of stolen Marshalls’ merchandise, along with additional stolen items from a nearby business. John was issued a citation for the theft at Marshalls and transported to the county jail, where he was booked on a felony no-bail warrant.

From November 1 through November 8, 2025, CPD demonstrated its ongoing commitment to community safety through a combination of proactive enforcement and responsive service. CPD officers responded to 121 calls for service and conducted 500 proactive self initiated incidents, showing the department’s dedication to protecting residents, visitors, and local businesses. As a result of these efforts, officers generated 39 case reports addressing a range of public safety concerns.

On November 3, 2025, CPD officers were conducting routine patrol when they observed an Audi Q5 traveling in the 800 block of Serramonte Boulevard in violation of multiple vehicle codes. Officers initiated a traffic enforcement stop, and the vehicle yielded in the parking lot of Lucky Chances Casino. During the stop, officers contacted the driver, who was determined to be on searchable probation. The driver exited the vehicle and complied with officers’ instructions. Officers then contacted the passenger, Carlos Esparza-Sanchez, an 18-year-old San Francisco resident, and asked him to exit the vehicle so officers could conduct a probation search of the vehicle. During a pat-down search, officers felt a metal object consistent with a firearm in the front pocket of Esparza-Sanchez’s sweatshirt. Esparza-Sanchez began tensing his arms and attempted to pull away from officers. CPD officers issued verbal commands to stop resisting and were able to secure one handcuff. After continued resistance, officers successfully gained control of Esparza-Sanchez and applied the second handcuff. A subsequent search of Esparza-Sanchez revealed a Sig Sauer firearm loaded with seven unspent rounds of ammunition in the magazine. Esparza-Sanchez was arrested without further incident and transported to the county jail, where he was booked for carrying a loaded unregistered firearm, resisting arrest, carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon on a person and carrying loaded firearm in a vehicle.

Between November 9 and November 18, the CPD responded to 153 calls for service, demonstrating the department’s ongoing commitment to public safety and support for the local business community. During this period, officers conducted 517 officer-initiated incidents and 74 traffic stops. On November 11, 2025, at approximately 8:30 p.m., CPD officers responded to 1361 El Camino Real regarding a vandalism in progress. Officers quickly arrived on scene and located Hugo Interian, a 33-year-old San Francisco resident, on the property. Interian matched the description provided and began walking away from officers. Officers gave verbal commands for him to stop, but Interian ignored the commands and continued to flee on foot. Interian then suddenly turned toward the officers, assumed a fighting stance, and quickly reached into his sweater pocket. As officers attempted to detain him, Interian began to resist, and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, Interian wrapped his arm around an officer’s head/neck area and attempted to pull him down. Interian continued physically fighting with officers until they were able to overcome his resistance and place him in handcuffs. Interian was transported and booked into county jail for obstructing/resisting an officer using force, battery on a peace officer, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
