City Manager’s Update
Brian Dossey, City Manager

In mid-October, Council Member Diana Colvin submitted her notice of retirement to the City Council, citing that she would like to focus on her health. Council Member Colvin’s last day serving on the City Council was October 18, 2022. She stated, “Unfortunately, I can no longer give 100% to the City Council and community, and it is with a heavy heart that I step down from my position. I have greatly enjoyed my time serving the Town and have strived to do my best to make Colma a great place to live, work and visit.”

In response to Council Member Colvin’s announcement, Mayor Helen Fisicaro said, “We support Diana’s decision and are thankful for her many years of service and dedication to the Town. It has been a pleasure and an honor to serve alongside her and we just want her to focus on her health and recovery.”

Council Member Colvin’s term is set to run out in 2024. At the October 26th City Council meeting the Council directed staff to fill Council Member Colvin’s vacated seat on the City Council by appointment. If you are interested in being a City Council member, please watch for information on our website at www.colma.ca.gov.

With the Holidays right around the corner, it’s important to beat the crowds and get your shopping done early. As you know Colma has some great opportunities for gifts for families, friends and loved ones.  Please remember there are great opportunities to get that perfect gift along Auto Row, the Serra Center, 280 Metro Center and Kohl’s this Holiday season.

In honor of those who served, we invite you to join us in celebrating Veteran’s Day this year on November 10, 2022 at 11:30am at Veteran’s Village, 1680 Mission Road in Colma.  The event will be highlighted by a recognition ceremony where we honor new Veteran’s to the Colma community followed by a BBQ lunch.  We hope to see you there.

Also, we invite you to join us and Cypress Lawn Cemetery in celebrating Arboretum Day on November 12, 2022 at 10:30am.  The celebration will feature a ribbon cutting of the reclaimed Monterey cypress wood benches at the entrance of Nobel Chapel, a champion Monterey cypress tree planting, walking tour of amongst Cypress Lawn trees, and finally ending at Cypress Lawn’s Champion Cork Oak Tree for a hosted lunch.  For more details about the Arboretum Day event and to R.S.V.P. please contact Cypress Lawn Arboretum Director Josh Gevertz at jgevertz@cypresslawn.com.

Lastly, don’t forget to turn your clocks back on Sunday morning November 6. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
