City Manager’s Update
Daniel Barros, City Manager

Summer may be coming to an end with kids returning to school and fall sports on the horizon, but we have some more fun planned in Colma this fall while we soak up our best weather of the year.  Please join us on Saturday, September 6th at Sterling Park for our Annual Town Picnic where this year will be a sports theme so come wearing your favorite jersey or team attire to show your spirit.

This year’s event will include a special guest appearance from the San Francisco Giants’ very own Lou Seal who will be sliding in for a visit. The Picnic will also be full of plenty of fun kids activities for all ages, games, Bingo and more. The picnic will begin at 11:00am and end at 3:00pm. Bingo will begin at 1:00pm for the first session, and 2:00pm for the second group. There is no cost for this annual community event, so pack up the whole family and stop by. Please remember to R.S.V.P. and check in when you arrive. Please remember you must have a current Town of Colma I.D. to participate in the Town Picnic and to R.S.V.P. at (650) 985-5678 or (650) 991-3213 before September 3, 2024.

Coming Soon: TextMyGov Community Text Alerts
Michelle Estabillo, City Clerk

The Town of Colma is excited to introduce a new way to keep residents informed and connected—TextMyGov, a community texting service that delivers important updates straight to your phone. This new service will officially go live in mid-October.

Why TextMyGov?

Communication is key when it comes to Town services, programs, and safety. While email, newsletters, and social media are helpful tools, many residents prefer to receive important information by text. With TextMyGov, the Town can reach you instantly with timely notices, reminders, and alerts—right where you’ll see them.

What to Expect

When TextMyGov launches in October, you’ll be able to receive:

  • Urgent alerts – notifications about weather, safety, or unexpected service disruptions
  • Town reminders – trash and recycling changes or road work updates
  • Community news – event reminders, recreation programs, Town Hall updates
  • Civic engagement notices – meeting highlights, surveys, and public participation opportunities

TextMyGov will also be interactive. Residents can text specific keywords to quickly find information or start a service request—for example, checking the trash schedule, reporting a pothole, or viewing upcoming events.

How to Sign Up

Details on how to register for text alerts will be shared in next month’s LiveWire (October issue), along with easy instructions and keyword options to try once the system goes live. Signing up will only take a few moments, and you’ll always have the option to tailor your preferences or unsubscribe at any time.

Stay Connected

TextMyGov will complement the Town’s existing communication channels—LiveWire, the Town website, and social media—by offering one more fast and convenient way to keep you in the loop.

Keep an eye out for the October LiveWire for full sign-up details, and get ready to join us in launching this new, modern way to stay connected with the Town.
