Summer Day Camp 2024

REGISTRATION FOR SUMMER 2024 IS NOW OPEN!

The Town of Colma Recreation Services Department is excited to offer Summer Day Camp! We will be offering nine, week long sessions from June 10 to August 9, 2024. Along with six Adventure Field Trips! Each camp day generally runs from 10am-4pm. Extended care hours are offered before and after camp.

Youth ages 5 to 12 years old are invited to explore a wide range of activities. Children will enjoy art & crafts, outdoor games, indoor games, music, cooking projects, movies, and so much more. A session schedule will be given out on the first day of camp.

Each camper should bring  a sweatshirt, refillable water bottle, and wear closed-toed shoes. Please be sure all personal items are clearly labeled with the camper’s name. On-site, we have trained and dedicated staff leading developmentally oriented games and activities that participants will enjoy among their peers and favorite Recreation Leaders. General Care (10am – 4pm)

Campers will experience games, arts and crafts, cooking projects, science experiments and so much more! Campers will have lunch and snack during General Care. Drop off and pick up is allowed at any time during General Care with the exception of Field Trips. However, we do appreciate a heads up if your child will be significantly late or picked up early. If your child will be missing General Care for the day, please call us ahead of time to let us know.

Adventure Camp Trips (8am – 6pm)

Join us as we adventure across the Bay Area! This Summer we will be journeying on SIX different Adventure Trips.  Adventure Camp Trips are not included in the session fee. Each Adventure Camp Trip has its own fees (see below). Timely drop-offs are encouraged, please look out for your camp email to see the latest drop-off time for your Adventure Camp Trip. Campers may arrive later than scheduled from Adventure Camp Trips.

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, June 19: $21 Resident / $70 Non-Resident

Daily Drop-in Rate (10am – 4pm)

Daily Rates are available for campers who are looking for one day of fun or need last minute care. Daily rates are only available on a drop-in basis, as long as there is are open spaces available. Please call and confirm with us before attempting to drop-in. Extended Care is not included in the Daily Drop-in Rate. There are no drop-ins for Adventure Camp Trips.

Extended Care

Extended Care is meant for those campers who are looking for a little more fun! Early Morning Care consists of quiet board games and coloring time with occasional movies and breakfast snacks. Afternoon Care includes extra time outside playing on the play structure or with Camp Equipment.

Week 1: June 10-14 (Welcome Week)

Campers will enjoy a Welcome Day celebration and receive a visit from Mad Science. Plus, some crafts inspired by our friend Super Mario! Then we will enter the world of Riley’s Brain to see Inside Out 2.

Week 2: June 17-21 (Magic of Disney)

Celebrate the Magic of Disney! Campers will get creative with all things Disney – Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar! Plus, they’ll go home with DIY Mickey/Minnie Ears. We will take a mini trip to the Colma Community Center to watch a Disney classic. Featuring a trip to Hometown Bowl! Join us for our first Adventure Trip to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

Week 3: June 24-28 (Wild Wild West)

Put your boots on because we’re heading to the wild west. Camper will have a visit from Wild Mind and celebrate our first ever Camp Ho-Down. Adventure Trip to watch the San Francisco Giants.

Week 4: July 1-3, NO CAMP July 4-5 (Happy Holidays!)

Our shortest week is full of extra fun as we celebrate the holidays. Join us for our Halloween Parade and 4th of July Carnival. No camp July 4 or 5.

Week 5: July 8-12 (Splish Splash)

Let’s explore some H2O! Campers will get into all things water including tie dye, making ice, and a day full of water games! Plus, a field trip to the swimming pool. Adventure field trip to Aqua Adventure in Fremont.

Week 6: July 15-19 (Animal Kingdom)

Let’s meet some animals! We’ll be joined by the petting zoo then take an adventure to Linda Mar Beach! Plus, some awesome animal crafts and snacks. Adventure field trip to CuriOdessey in San Mateo.

Week 7: July 22-26 (Around the World)

We’re travelling around the world this week! We’ll go to Classic Bowl and do crafts from different countries. Campers will train as Olympians all week for our Summer Olympics. Then join us on Friday for our annual Family Potluck!

Week 8: July 29-August 2 (Artful Antics)

Let your inner artist out! Campers will visit Color Me Mine and create masterpieces as we prepare for our annual Art Show! Adventure field trip to Legoland Discovery Center in Milpitas.

Week 9: August 5-9 (Out of this World)

Get ready for take-off! Campers will reach new heights with space themed crafts and a visit to the movies! Plus, Mad Science returns for a space-tacular presentation! Campers will say goodbye at our last party of the year! Adventure field trip to Exploratorium in San Francisco.

Camp Activities (White)
Camp Activities are run by our Rec Leaders and/or Leaders in Training, on site at Sterling Park. Camp activities include art, science, snack, and game projects.

Project Read (Green)
Join us as we’re visited weekly by our friends at Project Read! Project Read rotates by week between Nutrition lessons, Science lessons, and the Learning Wheels bus.

Presenter Days (Orange):
Campers will enjoy a visit from a variety of presenters at Sterling Park! Presenters typically visit us in the second half of the day.

Local Field Trips (Purple)
Campers will travel by bus, Bart or foot and experience exciting local places for a day packed with fun! Campers are encouraged to arrive on time at 10am on field trip days. They are typically back from their trip by 4pm at the latest. Disposable paper bag lunches are required on field trip days.

Adventure Field Trips (Blue)
Campers will hop on a bus and explore the greater Bay Area! Adventure field trip arrival and return times vary, please double check flyers for the correct information. Adventure field trips are not included in the Summer Camp Fee. Early Morning and Afternoon Care fees are included for Adventure field trips. Disposable paper bag lunches are required on field trip days.

Onsite Events (Pink)
Campers will enjoy a day packed of fun lead by our Camp staff! Onsite events typically take up a full or half day. Onsite events coincide with our weekly themes, dressing up is encouraged!

Lunch and Snacks

San Mateo County Libraries provides free lunch and snacks to children from the dates of 6/10/24 to 8/9/23. Parents or guardians who wish for their child to participate in the program must register prior to starting the program. Food program lunch will be provided from Mondays-Fridays as well as on local field trip days. Food Program will not be available on Adventure Trip Days. Children are not required to participate in the free lunch program.

Campers who are not enrolled in the food program are required to bring their own lunch daily, including at least one main lunch item (ex. sandwich, burrito, etc.) and any extra snacks. Children enrolled in early morning care are encouraged to eat breakfast before arrival, however they are also welcome to bring a light breakfast to camp each day. Food deliveries from delivery apps will not be allowed during camp hours, however, deliveries from a family member are accepted. We understand that sometimes a lunch may be forgotten, if there is an issue with your children’s lunch and you will be needing an alternative, please let us know asap.

In order to keep Colma sustainable, we encourage campers to pack re-usable containers whenever possible. We will practice compositing and recycling throughout the program.

Additional Information

Parents of all enrolled participants will receive an email with additional information 2 – 4 days before your camp week starts! All pertinent information will also be available on our sign-in table.

Leaders in Training

The Leaders in Training (LIT) Program provides teens ages 13 – 17 with work and leadership experience while they enjoy a Summer of fun! Program dates will be June 10 – Aug. 9, to align with camp. LITs are required to commit to working at least 3 days per week and 5 out of 9 weeks. LIT shifts are typically from 10am-3pm, times vary for field trip shifts. If an LIT, is unable to meet the commitments, they may be released from the program early.

The application for summer 2024 is open! Apply here by Friday, May 10. If selected, LITs will be required to attend the LIT Orientation on Thursday, May 30.

Camp Staff

Join our Rec Leader team! We are currently hiring seasonal Recreation Leaders ages 15+. We are also hiring permanent Senior Recreation Leaders. All staff hired will be required to attend our summer training week from June 3 to June 7.

Summer Day Camp Activity Calendars

* Updated Cancellation and Refund Policy

Any cancellation of a program registration will result in a total or partial loss of program registration fee. If cancellation of program registration is made at least fourteen (14) days in advance of program start date, a full refund will be issued.  If program registration is cancelled less than fourteen (14) days of program start date, a credit on account will be issued. No refund will be given. Medical emergencies or illnesses are exempt from this policy. However, a medical certification from your doctor will be required. Requests for program cancellation must be submitted in writing.  Any no shows or cancellations once program has started, no refund or credit will be given unless written medical certification is shown.
Certain programs may have specific refund policies (such as Ticket Sales, Field Trips, senior programs and ect.) This will be clearly stated on registration sheets for those programs.
