AB 341 requires all businesses that generate four (4) or more cubic yards of garbage per week and multi-family complexes with five (5) or more units to arrange for recycling collection services.

SB 1383 Mandatory Organics Collection for All Residents and Businesses

SB 1383 will reduce disposal of organic waste by 75% (20+ million tons annually) by 2025. This law also requires edible food recovery, recycled organics procurement, and organics recycling education. More to come on these programs!

Why is SB 1383 Important?bins

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving health, creating green jobs, supporting a resilient local economy is a priority for the Town of Colma and California. Organic waste makes up half of what Californians send to landfills. Reducing organic waste to landfills greatly reduces harmful, super pollutants such as methane. Organic waste in landfills emit 20% of California’s methane, a climate super pollutant 84 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
